Project Story

When a government builds a school, the steel underneath has to be right — every ton, every grade, every delivery window. That is exactly the kind of trust international project teams place in CUMIC. Our latest education-infrastructure win: supplying 1,804 tons of H-beams (S355J0 / S355J2) to the redevelopment of JPJC (Jurong Pioneer Junior College) in Singapore, a project owned by the Ministry of Education (MOE).

JPJC has long served students in Singapore's western region, but its original campus had simply become too small for the institution it had grown into. Therefore, MOE chose to rebuild from the ground up on a generous 6.6-hectare site in Jurong. The new campus is a statement of intent about the quality of learning environments Singapore is committed to delivering — and a multi-year construction program expected to be completed in 2028.

Why S355J0 / S355J2?  A Note on Specification

For readers in the trade, the grade choice tells its own story.

· S355 denotes a structural steel with a minimum yield strength of 355 MPa — a high-strength grade that lets engineers design slimmer, lighter frames without sacrificing load capacity.

· The suffix J0 and J2 refer to the steel's Charpy impact toughness: J0 guarantees 27 joules of impact energy at 0°C, while J2 guarantees the same at −20°C.

In practice, specifying S355J0/J2 for an above-ground school frame means the project demands consistent, verifiable material quality and the structural headroom to meet long-term safety and durability requirements. Our role was to source, verify, and deliver exactly that — with full material traceability and mill documentation to back every beam.

CUMIC's value in this project was not only the 1,804 tons of material, but the end-to-end reliability behind it: correct grades, verified documentation, and coordinated logistics that kept KYK's build program moving.

Conclusion

A school is one of the most important things a society builds. Being entrusted with the structural steel for MOE's JPJC campus rebuild — 1,804 tons of S355J0/J2 H-beams forming the frame of a 6.6-hectare campus set to open in 2028 — is the kind of project that reflects exactly why international teams choose CUMIC Steel.
